Here are a few stories from ProPublica that caught my eye:
- Inside the Historic Suit That the Gun Industry and Republicans Are on the Verge of Killing – Gary, Indiana has been suing the gun industry for 25 years.
- Inside Ziklag, the Secret Organization of Wealthy Christians Trying to Sway the Election and Change the Country – Because why should The Handmaid’s Tale be a work of fiction? Margaret Attwood warned us actually.
- Inside Project 2025’s Secret Training Videos – In case Project 2025 is too long to read, you can watch the 14-hour movie version.
- Skipping School: America’s Hidden Education Crisis – “Absenteeism has nearly doubled since the pandemic.” The article tells a story of parents getting used to lax participation during pandemic-era virtual schooling, and continuing this lax attitude afterward. So in this view it’s like people running red lights and stop signs – it’s just become a new norm and the enforcement is not there to re-establish the old norm. This rings true to me, but I think being a working a parent has become even harder over the last five years than it was before that, although it is hard to put my finger on exactly why.
- In a State With School Vouchers for All, Low-Income Families Aren’t Choosing to Use Them – If being a working parent is already hard, adding a very long school commute just isn’t practical.
